Conductor: Gergely Ménesi [1, 2], Csaba Somos [3]

Though the monumental, religious oratorios of Francis Poulenc and Ferenc Liszt are separated by a century, the religious mysticism and soft rapture of the 20th-century French composer are very close to Liszt’s spiritualism. Poulenc’s late style is another example of the multitude of ways in which Liszt was a fertilizing influence for modernity, and of how his humanism and art continued to be exemplary over half a century after his death.

The first part of the programme is dedicated to one of Liszt’s most beautiful and tranquil symphonic poems, Orpheus. Next, Fülöp Ránki, whose repertoire includes several of Liszt’s rarely played works and many of his concertos (Piano Concerto in A major, Malédiction), will perform the composer’s most popular piano concerto.

“I feel particularly close to him spiritually,” said the young artist of his attitude towards Liszt in an interview. “I think I will always look upon him as a model and a guide, whether in terms of humanity or as regards music, playing the piano.”

An event jointly organized with Liszt Academy.
