Emmanuelle Haïm, who studied the piano and the harpsicord but chose a career in conducting, founded her own old music ensemble in 2000. Le Concert d’Astrée has become one of the most sought-after old music orchestras, and their repertoire includes operas, oratorios and concert pieces. They are regularly featured at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and the ensemble and its conductor can be seen and heard in the recordings of such great performances as Peter Sellars’ direction of Handel’s Theodora, and Robert Carsen’s production of Monteverdi’s The Crowning of Poppea.
In addition to her own orchestra, Emmanuelle Haïm works with such ensembles as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She has been a guest conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra several times, and in 2016 she conducted Handel at the concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic.
